HowTo: Change Remote Desktop Port

Have you ever wanted to change the port on which the Remote Desktop Service listens?  Here’s how you do it:

  1. Open the registry editor (regedit.exe)
  2. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\TerminalServer\WinStations\RDP-Tcp\PortNumber
  3. From the Edit menu, click Modify, and then choose Decimal so you can read the number (it should say 3389)
  4. Type in the new port number (be sure you don’t choose a port already in use!)
  5. Reboot

Hope this helps!
